How much does an SME website cost in Switzerland?
Short answer: between CHF 0 (DIY website builder) and CHF 50'000+ (large agency). For a professionally built SME website with copy, SEO and data protection, the realistic 2026 range is CHF 4'000 to 15'000. Here is what drives the price — and what to watch out for.
The price ranges at a glance
| Option | One-off | Running per year | Your time investment |
|---|---|---|---|
| DIY website builder (Wix, Squarespace, Jimdo) | CHF 0 | CHF 150–500 | High — design, copy and upkeep are on you |
| Freelancer | CHF 1'500–5'000 | CHF 100–500 | Medium — copy and content usually come from you |
| Digital studio / small agency | CHF 4'000–15'000 | CHF 500–2'000 | Low — copy, SEO and tech are included |
| Larger agency | CHF 15'000–50'000+ | CHF 2'000+ | Low, but longer approval loops |

What really drives the price
Five factors drive the price more than anything else: scope (5 or 25 pages), who writes the copy (the biggest hidden effort), features such as online booking or a shop, multilingualism — and whether SEO and data protection are designed in from the start or retrofitted.
Beware of offers well below market range: they often lack copy, SEO basics, a legal notice and a privacy policy compliant with the Swiss FADP — and the rework costs more than the difference.
The running costs that tend to get forgotten
Domain (approx. CHF 15/year), hosting (CHF 60–300/year) and upkeep: updates, security, small changes. Without a maintenance plan, you pay later in emergency hours. A realistic figure is CHF 100–300 per month for a care plan — or zero if you choose a static website with no maintenance needs.
Websites — quick answers
Why are the price differences so large?
Because "website" can mean anything — from a template with placeholder text to an individual presence with its own copy, SEO and multiple languages. Don't compare prices, compare scope: who writes the copy? Is SEO included? What does operation cost?
What is usually not included in the price?
Most often: the copy (you deliver, the agency inserts), photos, ongoing maintenance and the legal pages (legal notice, privacy policy). Ask about these explicitly — this is exactly where extra costs arise.
How long does an SME website take?
With a clear process: 3–6 weeks from kickoff to go-live. Without fixed deadlines and responsibilities it can turn into months — usually because copy and decisions are missing.
